IMPORTANT UPDATE ON HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN SRI LANKA

60,175 men, women and children are crammed into an Emergency Relief Camp designed for 35,755 people. Thousands of children are sick, malnourished and have very limited access to an education.

Imagine you had to leave behind everything you hold dear - your shelter, possessions, safety and security. Imagine travelling for days with no food or water.

Imagine you had to live in an Emergency Relief Camp with 60,175 other men, women and children. Your new home is a ragged tent shared with five other families. There are only five small health centres available and 15 toilet blocks... Imagine the stench.

This is the reality for thousands of children in post-conflict Sri Lanka, just like five-year-old Rasika. During one of their many evacuations, nine of Rasika's family were killed in a bomb attack. His parents survived and they were able to reach an Emergency Relief Camp.

Rasika lost his home, his family and his childhood. Half of his young life has been spent in upheaval and chaos. He told us: "I have not still seen a peaceful life in my life time."

Emergency Relief - You can help to establish five Child Relief Centres where children will receive nutritious meals and immunisations to counter the devastating effects of malnutrition and disease.

Daily Survival - You can help provide survival education to 3,000 vulnerable children. It is vital they learn how to protect themselves from sexual abuse, violence and life-threatening diseases.

Hope for the future - You can help give 300 children a secondary school education, notebooks, school supplies and two libraries. You can provide another 300 youths with income generation skills so they can afford the basic necessities of life such as food, medicine and clothing when they return home.
