The Chongwe and Luangwa districts in Zambia suffer from extremely high levels of child malnutrition and youth unemployment. More than a third of children in these regions are so malnourished that their young bodies don't grow to a healthy size. Many babies die in infancy because they do not have enough to eat.

In these regions of Zambia there is widespread unemployment and poverty.

Just ask Tresia, a young mother living in Chongwe. She struggles to raise three girls and two very young boys in a two-roomed mud hut. Tresia faces the harsh reality that she simply cannot give her children the vital necessities of life.

The family income is just $18 a month. With this meagre amount, Tresia barely manages to feed and clothe her family. They can only afford to eat one meal a day and there is only enough money to send one of her five children to school.

"All I want is a better life for my children, and the chance for them to get an education."

The Zambia Future Farmers project will help young people like Tresia feed their families and generate an income.

840 goats to supply nutritious milk to vulnerable children. Baby goats will be passed from neighbour to neighbour to ultimately provide the entire community with milk and a source of income.

4 banana plantations to give income generation opportunities to families and communities so they can provide their children with the basic necessities of life such as food and an education.

4 boreholes to enable farmers to water their crops all year round and prevent children from carrying out the back-breaking task of carrying heavy bucketloads of water.
