Make poverty history

ChildFund Australia has teamed up with more than 30 Australian non-governmental organisations to launch the Make Poverty History Campaign.

Make Poverty History demands that the Australian Government deliver on its promise of meeting the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, a set of eight goals intended to halve global poverty by 2015. By joining other governments around the world Australia can ensure these are achieved.

ChildFund Australia invites supporters to actively support the campaign by visiting and writing letters to local MPs, signing petitions, sending postcards and participating in Make Poverty History Events.

2009 Campaigns

In 2009, supporters of Make Poverty History will continue to campaign for significant policy change that improves the lives of people living in extreme poverty. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will remain central to the campaign.

This year, Make Poverty History will particularly focus on improving maternal health (MDG 5) and reducing child mortality (MDG 4) and climate change and development. Climate change seriously threatens the lives and livelihoods of poor people around the world and severely hinders developing countries efforts to reach their objectives of poverty reduction and sustainable development under the United Nations MDGs.

Both of these campaigns will build on the success of the campaign to date and continue to raise awareness of the MDGs throughout the Australian population and inspire action amongst the community and political leaders.
