Africa Food Crisis

Famine officially declared in South Sudan.

Severe drought, a three-year civil war and economic collapse have collided to form a state of famine in South Sudan - a country in which child health statistics were already among the worst in the world.

Over one million people face starvation, including 345,000 children, who have been the hardest hit. Almost five million people require emergency food assistance and people are dying every day of severe acute malnutrition and related illnesses.

Anab, pictured above, and her family are among those who are in urgent need of assistance. Desperately trying to keep her children alive, she is feeding them boiled leaves, stripped from trees.

She has no real food to offer her children, nor is she able to produce breastmilk for her one-year-old daughter, Mary.

"I cannot get any food for Mary, so I offer her my empty breast." - Anab said sadly.

Your support will provide life-saving emergency food to children like Mary, who are at risk of starvation, and help prevent further spread of the famine.

With concerns the famine will spread to neighbouring countries, which are already suffering from severe drought and food shortage, it is feared that this will be the worst food crisis the world has seen in 50 years.

Please make your urgent donation now to provide life-saving support to children and families in their greatest time of need.
