Africa

Africa is ravaged by drought, famine, poverty, disease and conflict. One-third of African children under the age of five are malnourished.

In some countries, one mother dies from complications during pregnancy and delivery for every 100 live births. Almost half of all pregnant women suffer iron deficiency anaemia. The rapid spread of HIV and AIDS is also having a devasting impact, with over 15 million African children already having lost one or both parents to the disease.

In working with governments and local community organisations, ChildFund Australia's affiliate organisations in Africa help provide effective and long-term solutions to these problems. They not only tackle community priorities, but provide for the present and future needs of children.
