Asia-Pacific

During the 1990s, the child mortality rate for children under five was reduced by one-fourth in many parts of Asia, and progress was made in pregnancy-related complications with more births attended by skilled health personnel. However little progress was made in South Asia, the region with the lowest levels.

One in three children in South Asia (Indian sub-continent) is malnourished and in East Asia and the Pacific, school enrolment has declined. Additionally, in order to the meet the UN Millennium Development Goal of promoting gender equity, efforts in South Asia need to be strengthened to get girls into school. HIV and AIDS remains a growing concern across Asia.

In working with governments and local community organisations, ChildFund Australia's projects and projects run by ChildFund Alliance members in Asia and the Pacific, help provide effective and long-term solutions to these problems. They not only tackle community priorities, but provide for the present and future needs of children.
