Guinea-Conakry: programs & priorities
ChildFund Australia's affiliate organisation in Guinea currently
assists over 70,00 children and their family members, having only
recently established a development program in the country. The
growing HIV and AIDS crisis, increasing poverty levels and
mounting violence prompted ChildFund in Guinea to implement
services in the country.
Children in Guinea are also vulnerable to malnutrition and have
limited access to education.
With overwhelming numbers of displaced people now living in tent
cities and shanty towns, ChildFund in Guinea will offer access to
education, immunisations and child protection for at-risk
children. Because of our work in neighbouring Sierra Leone and
Liberia, programs in Guinea will have a direct regional impact on
ChildFund in Guinea efforts to reduce poverty.
Development in progress
After an extensive study of children's most pressing concerns,
ChildFund in Guinea focuses on early childhood development,
education and child protection.
Initiatives will help parents learn the best methods for
stimulating their children to promote life-long learning.
Additional programs will be implemented to monitor the growth and
development of younger children.
Programs have also been established to ensure that children are
given the opportunity to attend school and receive learning
materials.
