Guinea-Conakry: programs & priorities
ChildFund currently assists over 70,00 children and their family
members in Guinea, having only recently established a development
program in the country. The growing HIV/AIDS crisis, increasing
poverty levels and mounting violence prompted ChildFund to
implement services in the area.
Children in Guinea are also vulnerable to malnutrition and have
limited access to education.
With overwhelming numbers of displaced people now living in tent
cities and shanty towns, ChildFund will offer access to
education, immunisations and child protection for at-risk
children. Because of our work in neighboring Sierra Leone and
Liberia, programs in Guinea will have a direct regional impact on
ChildFund efforts to reduce poverty.
Development in progress
After an extensive study of the children's most pressing
concerns, ChildFund initiatives in Guinea now focus on early
childhood development, education and child protection.
Initiatives will help parents learn the best methods for
stimulating their children to promote life-long learning.
Additional programs will be implemented to monitor the growth and
development of younger children.
Programs have also been established to ensure that children are
given the opportunity to attend school, receive the necessary
supplies and learning materials.
