Afghanistan: programs & priorities
Since December 2001, ChildFund Australia's affiliate organisation
in Afghanistan has been working in the north of the country and
is currently assisting over 780,000 children and family members.
Programs include the development of community wells and water
systems; school reconstruction and rehabilitation; teacher
training; the provision of school materials and supplies; youth
literacy and non-formal education opportunities; and seed
distribution to increase agricultural outputs.
In addition, and to help children return to normal activities and
heal emotional wounds, ChildFund in Afghanistan has opened 80
Child Centered Spaces to provide informal education for over
13,000 children.
With a UNAMA grant, ChildFund in Afghanistan is also providing
women with job training and micro-credit opportunities. Two Child
Protection Grants from USAID and UNICEF allow ChildFund in
Afghanistan to work with vulnerable children, helping them
overcome wartime violence, and providing them with educational
opportunities, job training and the chance to participate in
community service activities.
