Cambodia: programs & priorities
One of ChildFund Australia's biggest achievements in 2007-08 was
the establishment of development programs in Cambodia, to help
improve the lives of children and families in some of the
country's poorest regions.
One of ChildFund Cambodia's first programs is a water and
sanitation program in Svay Rieng. Thousands of children die every
year in rural Cambodia from the effects of drinking dirty water,
which can cause life-threatening illnesses, such as typhoid,
dysentery and diarrhoea. To help improve children's health,
ChildFund Cambodia is building clean-water wells and hygienic
latrines.
Additionally, ChildFund Cambodia plans to investigate the
construction of irrigation canals and water distribution
opportunities to rice farmers affected annually by drought.
