- Zambia is a land-locked country in southern Africa, bordered by eight other countries. It was called Northern Rhodesia until it achieved independence from Britain in 1964.
- English is still the official language, however, more than 70 languages are spoken in Zambia.
- Zambia’s famous tourist attractions include Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River, where you can canoe past hippos, elephants and crocs!
Why children need your help
- Malnutrition, limited immunisation programs and malaria pose a huge threat to Zambian children, with 15% dying before their fifth birthday.
- An estimated 600,000 children in Zambia have lost one or both parents due to AIDS, leaving them at risk of being abandoned or mistreated.
- Zambians have a life expectancy of just 47 years.
