Vanuatu

In the immediate aftermath of Cylcone Pam, ChildFund partnered with Live & Learn Vanuatu to provide emergency aid and long-term support to children and families.

In March 2015, Cyclone Pam hit the islands of Vanuatu. leaving 75,000 people homeless, and destroying homes, schools and essential infrastructure – such as water supplies. Cyclones are common in Vanuatu and lives were saved because people reacted quickly, but many of the country’s structures toppled under the pressure of 350km/h winds.

Our priorities are:

Distributing water filtration kits to almost 20 schools and kindergartens – giving thousands of students access to safe drinking water for the next 20 to 30 years.

Rebuilding kindergartens on the outskirts of Port Vila that were completely destroyed. The schools were constructed using the latest cyclone-resistant designs and included rainwater systems and toilets.

Providing around 100 families with chickens, feed and seedlings to help kick-start small businesses – generating essential income for healthcare and school fees, as well as improving children’s nutrition.

1,000 children in one year.
That’s just the start of the difference you’ll make!
