The True Cost of Conflict Is Paid by Children
4 March 2026

ChildFund Australia is gravely concerned by the escalation of conflict across the Middle East. The true cost of conflict is paid by children. Without a doubt, conflict has a disproportionate and lasting effect on children and their right to protection and to life.
This escalation will compound the already dire situation for children in places like Gaza and Afghanistan, where the delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid by organisations like WeWorld, like ChildFund's partner, is under unprecedented pressure.
International law is unambiguous: children are owed special protection. Their survival depends on it. This is not a courtesy, but as a binding obligation.
It’s the obligation of the international community to seek to bring about the cessation of hostilities, uphold the rules that protect civilians and children in conflict and crisis, and to act to ensure the safe and unrestricted entry of life sustaining supplies.
