Empower her to shape her own future
When school isn't an option
Chenda lives with her grandfather, Sen, in rural Battambang, Cambodia. She helps at home by cooking and cleaning, chopping firewood, and looking after her 1-year-old cousin.
Chenda loved school. But her family couldn’t afford for her to go anymore. She says, “I was unhappy the day my mum told me to leave school.”

Put school within reach
Chenda is now back in class, thanks to the school mapping program. Each day she cycles there to learn and play with her friends. And she has hopes for her future. She dreams that one day she’ll become brave and strong. Her grandfather is proud of her hard work. He encourages her to keep learning so that she can have a different life.
Creating lasting change through learning
With peer tutor Lina’s guidance, Chenda is working hard to improve her reading, writing and maths - her favourite subject. She’s catching up and learning skills that will open up her future.

In rural Cambodia, several factors impact school attendance:

Families can't afford uniforms and supplies

Kids take jobs to support their families

School is too far and no safe or reliable transport
If she misses school, she misses her future.
Missing out on an education limits a child’s opportunities in life. Without school, it’s far harder to break free from poverty, and whole communities miss out on the benefits that education brings. This gap falls hardest on girls living in poor, remote and rural areas, where schools are often out of reach.
