Born deaf, Srey Oun sat in a classroom for years where nobody spoke her language.
The classroom wasn't set up to include her.
Across rural Cambodia, children with disabilities face barriers to learning. But those barriers can be removed.

A classroom where she was understood
With support from our local partner in Cambodia, KHEN, Srey Oun received the support her family didn’t know was available.
She started attending a specialist school where teachers used sign language. She could ask questions, understand her lessons and share her ideas.
She began making friends. Joining in.
"In just one semester, it feels as though she has changed 180 degrees," said her teacher, Rem Rina.
The barriers around her changed. So did what became possible.

More children are waiting
Many children with disabilities are still missing out on education. Some classrooms aren't physically accessible.
Some teachers haven't received training in inclusive education.
Some families don't yet know what support is available.
How we work:
- identify children missing out on education
- train teachers in inclusive teaching practices
- develop Individual Education Plans tailored to each child's needs
- improve school accessibility

Since we began, together we've reached 5,062 children with disabilities across rural Battambang.
But many more children are still waiting.

- A child can receive inclusive education kit, including accessible study materials, so they can learn with confidence alongside their peers.
- Schools can be made physically accessible, so children with mobility needs can safely enter their classrooms and take part each day.
- We can create more inclusive classrooms by training teachers, caregivers and communities to support children with disabilities.
