Support better futures – donate to refugee children
Over 108 million people worldwide have been forcibly displaced from their homes –including 43.3 million children [UNHCR, 2024]. These young lives are shaped by conflict, crisis and displacement. But, with the right support, we can help them rebuild a future.
Refugee children face unimaginable challenges:
- Unsafe shelters
- Interrupted education
- Limited access to food, clean water and healthcare
- High risk of exploitation and violence
Together, we can change that.
Here at ChildFund Australia, we work with refugee communities to provide:
- safe spaces,
- education,
- medical care and
- long-term recovery support.
Because every child needs a safe and healthy childhood, no matter where they are born. Donations for refugees are a practical way to support children in refugee camps to have a better future.
Supporting displaced children is urgent – refugee donations matter
Fifteen million refugee children are of school age, yet nearly half are not enrolled in school [UNHCR Education Report, 2023]. Girls are disproportionately affected, often missing out on learning opportunities and facing increased risks of early marriage or unsafe child labour.
The donations of ChildFund supporters in Australia and around the world are helping to provide Child Friendly Spaces in the Palorinya refugee camp in Uganda where children can learn and stay safe from violence. Each space includes a classroom, toilet and playground.
More than 6.6 million refugees live in formal camps around the world [UNHCR, 2023]. In Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh – the world’s largest refugee camp – nearly one million refugees live in overcrowded conditions [UNHCR, 2024]. Fires spread easily. Healthcare is limited. Many children work instead of learning, just to help their families survive.
Amidst the challenging conditions, ChildFund and EDUCO’s Adolescent Boys Clubs run in Cox’s Bazar provide a safe haven where boys can learn and acquire vital life skills. For boys like Minul,15, the club has significantly impacted their lives. After learning about child rights and protection issues in the refugee camp, he now champions the rights and wellbeing of children in his community.
Minul shares, “I have seen the distressing reality of children becoming victims of child marriage and child labour, and it deeply troubles me. However, as a member of the Adolescent Boys Club, I am now in a position to help stop these harmful practices.”
