Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Elton Tabu.

I’m the Project Officer for the Gender Action Platform (GAP) project at ChildFund Papua New Guinea.

My role involves contributing to the design, development and monitoring of the GAP project; identifying and delivering quality, comprehensive training to stakeholders; providing ongoing mentoring and support to a range of project stakeholders; and undertaking regular visits to the field to support and monitor implementation of the GAP project.

I’ve been at ChildFund since 2017.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund was contributing to the design and development of the learning resource in personal development for teachers.

The thing I love most about my job is being able to interact with people, especially children and adolescents, to help them understand and accept themselves in society.

When I was a child I wanted to be a paediatrician.

The country I’d most like to visit is India.

The top three things I’d take with me in an emergency would be basic medicines, important phone numbers and a small amount of cash.

My favourite dish/cuisine or place to eat is fried chicken and chips at Big Rooster.

I’m really good at helping young people make informed decisions about their health.

I can’t live without talking to people nicely and advocating on health issues that might affect them.

I’m looking forward to being an advocate on health issues such as STI/HIV, teenage pregnancy, family planning, gender-based violence, the effect of pornography, and abortion.
