Dawei Township is located in the south of Myanmar, close to the border of Thailand.
Until 2015, Myanmar was under military rule for 50 years and, as a result, access to basic education and health services across the country is extremely low.
Ongoing conflict between ethnic groups in this region has resulted in thousands internally displaced persons, while many other families have been forced to seek refuge in Thailand.
Myanmar has a significantly large youth population and in Dawei over 40% of the population are children.
Youth in Dawei made a short video to introduce their village to you. This is one of many videos you can expect to receive from your community, as they love to share their everyday lives with their sponsors.
Win Nang is 10 years old. His mother peels onions for a living and their family barely survives on an income of $3 a day. “I worry that one day my parents might not be able to afford to keep me in school.”
