More than 4,000 people have been killed or injured since 7 Oct 2023, after a series of 6.3 magnitude earthquakes struck north-western Afghanistan in the last week. Since then, two more earthquakes have hit the region in the last couple of days. Our partners on the ground are sending updates daily, and we will continue to update this page with current information.
People living in Herat Province – where ChildFund Alliance has been collectively implementing a humanitarian program in support of women-headed households – are among those most affected.
The recent disasters come amid a severe humanitarian emergency in Afghanistan, where more than 24 million people – mostly women and children – have been facing a crippling and protracted food crisis since the Taliban’s takeover in 2021.
How you can help
Your donation is urgently needed to help our ChildFund Alliance partner, WeWorld, in Herat Province, provide:
- Food and water, including cash assistance for families to buy the food and other essentials they need.
- Emergency shelter such as tents and warm goods to protect displaced children and families from the coming winter
- Sanitation and hygiene kits to help keep children safe from illness and disease
