60 seconds with … Karen Foard

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Karen Foard.

I’m the Head of Marketing at ChildFund Australia.

My role involves managing all the fundraising activities, bringing in around AU$30 million in donations from the Australian public, to support our work. I have a great team of 10 staff across single giving, regular giving and digital.

“The very special moments for me have definitely been when I have visited the countries where we work and meeting the kids and their families.”

I’ve been at ChildFund since 2013.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund was … There have been many over my time here. The very special moments for me have definitely been when I have visited the countries where  we work and meeting the kids and their families. It really is what makes me get up in the morning and want to come to work, knowing that what I am doing is making a difference. All the staff I work with are inspiring, I am forever learning everyday from my wonderful colleagues, we have a great team at ChildFund.

The things I love most about my job are working with such an amazing team; they make doing what we do a pleasure. I enjoy the creativity and variety of my work.  I like to try new things, so the fact that we have the flexibility to do this is amazing.

When I was a child I wanted to be an air hostess… but then didn’t every young girl… it always seemed so glamorous when you’re young…

The country I’d most like to visit is Norway to see the northern lights. This is just one of many on my bucket list!

The top 3 things I’d take with me in an emergency would be my cat, my phone and wallet.

My favourite dish/cuisine or place to eat is Vietnamese. I like all Asian food actually!

I’m really good at cooking … when I do it!

I can’t live without my cat.

I’m looking forward to relaxing and doing nothing by the beach on the south coast of NSW, with my partner and friends.
