60 seconds with … Oum Vongnarith

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Oum Vongnarith.

I’m the Head of Operations at ChildFund Cambodia.

My role involves ensuring the implementation of organisational programs goes well, and are effectively supported in terms of funding, administration, logistics, human resources, communications and IT.

I’ve been at ChildFund since February 2011.

Head of Operations Oum Vongnarith loves meeting the children in the communities where he works, and looks forward to teaching children and youth when he retires.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund was providing support to ChildFund Cambodia staff to fulfil their tasks effectively and efficiently to support children in rural communities, especially in Chetr Borey district, Kratie province.

The things I love most about my job are meeting staff, children, and local communities in Cambodia, and Myanmar.

When I was a child I wanted to be a doctor as my father was a doctor.

The country I’d most like to visit is Timor-Leste.

The top 3 things I’d take with me in an emergency would be my family, children, and colleague.

My favourite dish/cuisine or place to eat is Samlor Kako (a traditional Khmer soup made with vegetables, fish and pork, and usually served with rice).

I’m really good at calculations and working with numbers.

I can’t live without my family.

I’m looking forward to spending time teaching children and youth when I am retired.
