60 seconds with … Hung Hoang

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Hung Hoang.

I’m a Program Officer at ChildFund Vietnam in Bac Kan province.

My role involves implementing education programs.

I’ve been at ChildFund since 2015. Before working in the Bac Kan Area Development Office, I worked for a year as a program officer in Cao Bang.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund was when I participated in the Retreat, a team building event, in 2017. The outdoor games we played boosted my team spirit and commitment in working in community development. My team won first prize.

As a ChildFund Vietnam Program Officer Hung Hoang has learnt children can play a key role in helping to develop educational projects.

The things I love most about my job are the field trips to the communities. During these trips I get to meet many children, parents and teachers, and through working with them I have learnt a lot about the education issues they face and how to best find solutions to these issues.

I’ve also learnt that children can help us develop project activities. I really love their innocence and intelligence!

When I was a child I wanted to be a teacher. My high school history teacher was an inspiration to me. I still remember the way she treated children; she took care of every child. My memory of her helps me in my current work.

The country I’d most like to visit is Australia. I wish I could visit the ChildFund office in Sydney and meet some of the Australian volunteers who worked with us in Bac Kan.

The top three things I’d take with me in an emergency would be a personal first aid kit, an emergency telephone list and a blood group identity card.

My favourite dish/cuisine or place to eat is the Vietnamese steamed rolled pancake. It is made from a rice batter filled with a mixture of seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushrooms, and shallots. It is a popular food in Bac Kan. I often eat it for breakfast.

I’m really good at meeting deadlines. I’ve also been told that I’m humorous and friendly. Students and teachers in the program communities often share their ideas and thoughts with me.

I can’t live without friendship. My friends have helped me overcome difficulties in life and work. Without their support, I would not be the person I am now.

I’m looking forward to improving my English skills.
