60 seconds with … Long Phearun

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Long Phearun.

I’m the Provincial Manager at ChildFund Cambodia in Svay Rieng province.

My role involves leading and managing all aspects of the organisation, including business support services, sponsor relations and programs.

“The things I love most about my job are being able to help poor communities and vulnerable children, and meeting and working with people from different backgrounds and cultures.”

I’ve been at ChildFund since August 2010.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund has been seeing how the organisation’s work effectively addresses the real needs of poor communities and marginalised groups, especially vulnerable children. I was also inspired when ChildFund trusted and promoted me to the position of provincial manager.

The things I love most about my job are being able to help poor communities and vulnerable children, and meeting and working with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

When I was a child I wanted to be a medical doctor.

The country I’d most like to visit is Australia.

The top three things I’d take with me in an emergency would be my family, some medicines and food.

My favourite dish/cuisine or place to eat is a type of Khmer food called Pha ak Chu (fish pickle).

I’m really good at playing Khmer Chess.

I can’t live without love, family and my job.

I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to work in the same organisation but be based closer to my family. Currently I am working in the province and my family is Phnom Penh so I only get to see them on the weekends.
