60 seconds with … Sim Sokleang

Ever wanted to know what it’s like to work in international aid? In this special series, we introduce you to our many dedicated staff members working behind the scenes and on the ground, in Australia and overseas.

We hope you enjoy meeting #TeamChildFund!

My name is Sim Sokleang.

I’m the provincial manager of ChildFund Cambodia, based in Kratie Province.

I am responsible for leading and managing all aspects of our program, sponsorship and support units.

What I love the most about my job is working with children and communities in remote areas. I am really happy that I work with my wonderful team, who come from different sectors but for the same goal: to promote the wellbeing of our children.

I’ve been at ChildFund since late 2011.

My most inspiring moment at ChildFund is being able to work in Kratie. It’s my home region and I have spent about 10 years working with poor communities here. I’m inspired by seeing what I can contribute. There are many opportunities for me to learn new things with ChildFund. Everyone in my Kratie team is inspiring and I am really happy to work with them.

The things I love most about my job are working with a wonderful team in Kratie. We always develop work plans together to support our children, youth and poor communities in remote areas, and we use our knowledge and skills to improve their living conditions. I like talking with old people and learning about their villages.

When I was a child I wanted to be… I don’t really remember, but I remember I wanted to work like my father.  He was on the agricultural staff at Kratie Province before he passed away 10 years ago.

The country I’d most like to visit is Australia because I love their education system and I wish to send my children there when they grow up.

The top 3 things I’d take with me in an emergency would be my family, food and some medicine.

My favourite dish/cuisine is Mekong river fish – any kind of fish.

I’m really good at playing football but cycling is my favourite sport on the weekend.

I can’t live without my family and my job!!!

I’m looking forward to studying a PhD in the next two years.

ChildFund Cambodia’s provincial manager Sim Sokleang enjoys working with his team in Kratie Province, football and cycling.
